A week ago I had a Seizure and the Neuro doctor diagnoised me with Astrocytoma.?
What are some information you can give me. I did all my parnoid research on the internet and it was CRAZY. When I was younger i was dianoised with Neurofibromitosis when I was about 12 and I am 22 years old now. My mother has Neurofibromitosis and she had to get surgery in her arm.
I am worried sick about this and this is my first seizure in 2 years. I go to my first doctor appt on Jan 12 and UNC Chaple Hill for a consult.
What usually happens at a consult?
Whats the survival rate?
Can I still have kids?
Do I do a biopsy first?
Do I get radiation and chemo then Surgery?
How long is chemo?
How long is the recovery after surgery.
For surgery do they shave all your hair off?
Do you loose a lot of hair for chemo and radiation?
Well why did you have a seizure 2 years ago?? How were you diagnosed with astrocytoma if you haven't even had a biopsy yet? I don't know why you'd have a consult if you have a brain tumor with seizures. I certainly didn't. I went to UNC on a saturday morning and had surgery on monday morning. After surgery, tests confirmed cancer grade 3, oligoastrocytoma. I underwent 6 weeks of radiation with temodar, then a month off, then went through 5 cycles of temodar a month for 6 months. They would tell you to wait a couple years after last treatment to have kids. I didn't get a biopsy. I wanted it out of my head. You would go back 2 weeks after surgery to have sutures removed and then they will tell you your diagnosis. They only shave what they have to. You will lose hair where radiation passes through your head. Hard to say about survival rate averages until you have an actual diagnosis, which you don't.. My surgeon was chief of neurosurgery, Dr Matthew Ewend and a very caring Nurse, Ms. Cush. She's the one who went over the details of my diagnosis after the dr confused me with dr talk lol..
If it's small tumor, opt for gamma knife instead of cutting your head open..
