I want to exchange a standard size tub with a whirlpool tub is that possible?
Do they make small whirlpool tubs to replace a standard tub, what size would it be. I live in a condo and the tub I have is just the standard size. What features do you look for in a whirlpool tub? What do you need to install the tub, meaning, do you just need 120VAC and the water supply.
You can get whirlpool tubs in standard 5 foot length and 32 inch width. A whirlpool is generally higher (think 22 instead of 16 inches) than non-whirlpool tubs to allow for a more luxurious deep soak and room for the bubbling water. Jacuzzi and American Standard both make them in this size. I think Kohler makes some also. Many times, you can buy the same tub in a jetted or non-jetted version.
Above all else, I recommend getting an "in-line" heater that will keep the water being recycled through the jets warm. Otherwise your bath will get cold fast!
Other features you would want to look for are a thick, sturdy acrylic material that won't crack easily, and more jets is usually a better thing.
You will need power and water, but you may also want to lay a "mortar bed" beneath your tub. It's a layer of mortar that molds to the base of your tub to give it more support (so the tub doesn't flex). It's important to make sure your floor can support the weight of a full tub (mostly a problem for addition of a new bathtub or if you are going from a very small bathtub to a deep soak tub because of the increased weight on your floor).
