I have a gravel driveway in pretty good shape but needs to be top dressed. What mix of gravel should I use?
After additional gravel is added should it be compacted? If so, what method of compaction is recommended?
A mixture of various sizes is good. Some in the 1-1/2" size, some less than 1-1/2" and some in the 1/2" to 1/4" size.
This can be crushed rock or river gravel that depends on what is available locally. The idea is the smaller rocks will fit in between the larger pieces and give a smoother surface and "lock" together better.
I wouldn't pay to have it compacted. Just normal traffic will do than.
