Can tear drop shaped blood cells mean something other than cancer?
I was recently to my state health fair and had some blood work done. I have also been to my doctor lately due to fatigue, dizziness, headaches, shortness of breath, bruising easily and lack of concentration. My blood work came back with a very low iron level. I went to my doctor and he did a blood smear and found that I have some tear drop shaped blood cells and some pencil shaped blood cells. Everything I find on it seems to point to a bone marrow problem. However, my White blood count, Red Blood Counrt and Platelets levels are fine. What else could it be?
It could very well be related to your low iron levels. Your doctor will probably want to check your blood again after you've been taking daily iron supplements for 3 months. If your doctor isn't worried about it yet, then don't you worry about it being something more serious. Just take your iron supplements daily and get your blood checked again in 3 months.
