What can I use as a safe, natural spider repellant?
I have 6 pets and a spider problem. I'm looking for a way to repel the spiders. They are about a quarter in size, brown and fuzzy. And if you know what kind of spider that is, that would be good help. I live in Northeast Indiana.

there is no real spider repellent though treating the yard and the exterior of the foundation during the warmer months will help...as mentioned it is probably a wolf spider. What you might do is use the small glue boards/box style roach motels and place them around the baseboards in out of the way places
please note the LD50 of Boric acid is around 2660 and table salt is greater than 3000 (the higher the number the less toxic the chemical is) BA is not less toxic than table salt, in fact it is usually the most toxic "finished" product an exterminator will use (.1% of a cypermethrin mixture used as an insect / yard spray will have an LD50 of greater than 120000,which actually is less toxic than salt.) Not sure if I would feel safe using BA dust in a nursery..if a child gets any amount swallowed it will be a trip to the hospital and there is no antidote for BA poisoning.
Trace...you made a statement in an email about me promoting BA, guessing you mis-read that other post...I was making a point on toxicity in products used that BA will be more toxic than other common products used in the pest control industry, I personally don't like it...we have much better choices out there. BA at full strength is not the eye wash or emema but can be found in these products at a small amounts, Reading the label of Bausch& Lomb (sp) eye washes there will be listed Hydrochloric acid on the label but hardly expect anyone to splash that in their eyes at full strength 
glue boards are a very good tool for hunting spiders such as wolf spiders (brown recluses too) who use their eyes and legs to catch food rather than a spider web
