Is it sterling silver or is it "mystery metal"? Another thing to consider is the gram weight of the base metal. If it is silver then it is still considered to be a precious metal. However many times when something is plated, a cheap metal is used as the base metal and is commonly referred to as mystery metal. If this necklace is sterling silver you shouldn't pay more than $50-$75.00 out of pocket in any store unless it is stamped with a Tiffany& Co, logo in the inside then your paying extra for the brand name. Cubic Zirconia stones are dirt cheap and are set in all kinds of jewelry from costume to silver and even gold.
