would this get you down about a 2nd hand tv?
i live on sick benefits and dont own too many possessions and cannot afford a lot .
in the 6 years ive lived in this one bedroomed flat ive only had a 14 inch crt type old Phillips tv.
a month or so ago i picked up a second hand bigger tv, the old crt type by hitachi.
its an ok picture , the tubes are going a bit in the picture because theres a green stain and a purple stain on the right and left hand of the screen.
and the last thing , when you turn the sound up on the higher level you here a tinny type sound echo ? - like the tv cant cope with the volume turned up too loud .
all together its better having a bigger tv, even if it is the older type.
but having ocd , and things having to be perfect its hard tolerating these little faults on the bigger 2nd hand tv.
i have the number of a tv repair shop across town , but i wont have the money for a while to get these little faults fixed .
id appreciate answers or thoughts.

There is nothing you can do about the stains on the picture. This is because of the aged tube and it will not be worth the money to replace it. In fact, you probably won't be able to get a new tube for it nowadays.
The sound problem is becasuse a loudspeaker's worn out and the voice coil has come loose in its cage. The only thing that can be done about this is to replace the speaker. That will be much cheaper than a new picture tube but will still cost a few pounds. Call the shop and get a quote.
Some televison sets have a socket on the back for an external loudspeaker to be connected. If your has one it will be identified either by a label "LS" or have a small loudpspeaker image near it. If you have a socket then it may be economically worthwhile to use an inexpensive external speaker.
If the set has a SCART socket then buy a cheap Freeview box from Tesco (about £20) so that you don't miss out on the digital tv and radio channels.
